Stationary Bike - Watts vs RPMs Topic


I am confused as to how I should be tracking stationary bike sessions! All I see available is watts, but there are times that I am not able to use a bike that shows watts. How should I go about tracking by RPMs? Thanks in advance for explanations!


I just hit quick log...it asks for calorie burn. Then I add in comments, the exercise, time, HR...or any thing you want to add


Hi there Eirerose- I'd suggest using a few different entries depending on the type of workout you do. For example, general stationary biking is 5 METS (METS are basically the energy cost of an activity). This is equivalent to biking about 10 mph at a leisurely pace, with light effort. While a stationary ride of 101-160w with vigorous effort is 7 METS. Perhaps your ride is 15 minutes of "general stationary biking" and then 15 minutes of vigorous effort for a total of 30 minutes. At the end of a day it's all about progress, not perfection! Look for trends and pay attention to how you feel and if the rides are getting easier for you. Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
