I just joined - stay-at-home mom of two girls (4 yr old and 22 months). I'm "okay", but have always had to fight weight gain - would love to finally change my habits for the long run so it doesn't feel like a fight! How are you guys doing on this?

Hi, I just joined...I though you were supposed to lose weight (especially if you were breast feeding), then I heard that some people lose the weight after the stop breast feeding...so far no such luck! Working to lose the weight I gained during my pregnancy and get in an even better place to try for a second child. Wow, it has never been so hard to lose even just a pound. And I agree, I am so worn out by the time I put the little one down for bed, the thought of exercising or preparing meals for the next day is a bit overwhelming. But I know I will be happier, feel better, and have more energy if I get my body into better shape...

Hey - so glad to see someone else "active" out here! I just think I might get a little more motivation and conversation on the topic from other moms vs. my husband - who is supportive, but does not seem to have a motivation problem himself...it's just different (and easier I think) for guys! He lost 30 pounds 2 years ago and has looked great, stayed on his diet, and worked out ever since... I just seem to go more in spurts...
So, I think everyone is just different with breastfeeding - with both my kids, breastfeeding seemed to be a benefit for me. With my first I actually was 10 pounds lighter than I was pre-pregnancy...however, the problem is that is not a repeatable process (like just eating healthy all the time)! So once I stopped breastfeeding, my regular creeping weight came back... Definitely a good idea to try to get your best body before #2 - I think that does make a difference for bouncing back.
How do you like the site so far? Some of the planning I thought was a little complicated, but once figured out, it really makes sense and is a bit more robust than some free sites. Plus I LOVE the iPod app option.
Lets's keep the conversation going!

Hello mommies,
I agree that support from others going through the same thing helps tremendously. Men just dont get it, it is so much easier for them to lose weight. unfair how much more they can eat!
I myself am a mom of 3. I have a 5 year old son and almost 4 year old boy/girl twins.
I didnt breastfeed long for different reasons but I did have a much harder time losing weight after the twins were born. By the time they were 2 1/2 I had lost it all and was probably in the best shape of my life. Unfortunately life happens and I gained 15 back plus another 5 when we moved. :(
It really is a constant struggle.
I have made a mental commitment to stick to my calorie goal and not eat any of my exercise calories back because I don't think it is necessary.
I have already dropped 3 lb. but I believe it to be water weight as I just started. Hey, I'll take it!
I have been doing yoga, running and kettlebell training and I am in good shape but my diet can be really bad. I absolutely love ice cream, cookies, cake, candy, fried food all the bad stuff it seems.
What are some tricks you moms do when you get a bad craving?

I wish I could help you with some tricks. Oddly enough I don't crave sweet stuff really often. But when I do I will just get low calorie, low fat, or I will substitute it with water with a flavoring like mio. My problem is when I am not doing anything that is really active I want to eat just to take away the monotony. like when I am studying I want to eat. I am thinking about trying rice cakes again.
