I travel a lot - long plane rides, long work days, good restaurants. Anyone have any tips to share?

Carry some food with you....dried fruit and nuts or sliced apple or figs and abottle of water.

Starbucks perfect oatmeal, banana and fruit cup for cross-country flights. Nut medley topping, no brown sugar. Take dried fruit with you, carry or buy a large bottle of water. Anytime the food tray or meal offering comes around, eat your own. Eat the oatmeal first as the fiber will fill you up and the nuts will satiate you. Plus Starbucks will give you a pretty handy carrying bag to take it along! Drink the water to keep hydrated and keep your belly feeling full.

I travel internationally throughout the year, partly for business, and partly just going back and forth between home in the USA and our second home in Asia.

I've come to realize that low-carb/high-fat is not only the best lifestyle for weight loss/management, but adherence is also MUCH easier when traveling than trying to be disciplined with traditional calorie counting or low fat.

It's often difficult to find low-fat foods, and can be impossible to know whether foods are low fat or low calorie when dining in restaurants or on airplanes. On the other hand, it's generally quite easy to identify, and thus avoid, foods that are carb-rich. I have no problem skipping the rice, pasta, potatoes, breads, etc., and have found that restaurants will often gladly substitute a green vegetable for a starch.

Also, if you're flying first or business class, snacks are available that can be more low-carb than what's usually on offer in economy class -- nuts, cheeses, celery, turkey sandwiches that can be "gutted" (toss the bread), etc. Also, flight attendants have always been happy to give me an extra salad or appetizer with my meals to offset the starches I'm not eating, which often comprise as much as half of the main course.

If you're flying coach, its easier to avoid chips, cookies, and heavy sandwiches if you carry beef jerky, individually wrapped cheeses, packages of nuts, cut vegetables, or grab a take-away salad in the airport to eat on the plane ( just watch for croutons, dried fruit, sugary dressings).
