Weekends away Topic

We have a jam packed schedule of weekends away to visit friends, weddings etc. I always find these weekends particularly tough to stay on plan. Inevitably wine and eating out is involved. Any good coping strategies people can suggest?

Ok, in looking back at my so far rather short weightless journey, I have realised that it wasn't actually the weekends away that I struggled with. As a matter of fact the first weekend away I did great. I watched my eating like a hawk until the actual night of the wedding (I am sorry but wedding cakes and champagne are impossible for me to avoid!). But on preparation I worked out all week, ate sensibly until it felt like torture, forgave myself the transgression and got right back on the wagon. The result was that I still lost weight! However each following weekend I allowed myself to slip a bit more. Knowing that I got away with it the first week caused me to push the boundaries further so it became not just one meal, it was the lunch and the dinner, and the morning after a big breakfast. This grew until the entire weekends became indulgent. It's a slippery slope, and luckily my fiancé's success - and my rise on the scale - has hopefully set me straight. I am hopefully realising that I can stray a bit for special occasions, but straying much beyond that and I will pay. It's a tough and demotivating lesson to learn but hopefully one that I can use as a positive experience going forward!! The journey continues...

I have same problem: Weekends!

I find that the thing is, sometimes I get very hungry during inconvenient times on weekends away. If you get low blood sugar, that's not only bad for your mood but will also have a myriad of other effects.

Packing some low carb protein drinks (eg. Atkins Chocolate, or the Atkins Day Break bars) usually helps tide me over. Though I'm not a fan of artifical / refined substitutes, these do a really good job of enabling me to maintain free choice.

I try eating vegetable and tofu stir fries (without any sweet and sour sauce) and ask to replace potatoes with other vegetables (like pumpkin, roasted capsicum and green beans - just make sure they aren't smothered in.

It's worth grabbing a greek yoghurt (plain) before going out. Then by the time you eat your veges (even if you had a glass of wine) you will be so full that you won't want any desert.

Last but definitely not least, I try and stay at self serviced apartments close to a supermarket. Last time I had a gourmet supermarket around the corner that had salads of pumpkin and green beans, balsamic beetroot squares, low carb drinks, and an eggplant salsa that was to die for.

I loved it, it was easier than being at home!

I love weekends, I can cook great foods and really make sure I'm eating delicious foods that fit in with my eating style.

I find I am so busy on weekends chasing after my curiosities that sometimes I forget to eat (which is not fabulous, but it's better than overeating)

When I am hungry I try to dring a glass of water, eat an apple, drink a second glass of water...

I do not say it works perfectly, but it is better than grabbing any sweet junk food that I can find...

What works great is hyperproteined snacks.
