On average, how many calories would a 30 yr old, 5 foot 9 inches woman weighing 150lbs burn just naturally? My job is fairly sedentary but I go to the gym most days after work.

Hi Millerm122 - it depends upon what you mean by "naturally." If you mean the amount of calories to sustain your body weight at complete rest, in the fasting state, in a "room temperature" environment - then that would be your BMR or RMR. For you, the Mifflin-St.Jeor equation (RMR) is 1468 calories for the data you share.

To arrive at maintenance calories, you can simply use MyNetDiary to estimate that. Let me know if I answered your question or not!

Also, here is a helpful blog post about calories at MND: http://blog.mynetdiary.com/post/2313337506/setting-a-healthy-target-weight-how-do-you

Kathy's post on creating an accurate calorie target is excellent. Anyone who is unsure about what activity levels to set and what exercises to enter separately should read this. Everyone is different, so just relying on "light active" or some other generic exercise category isn't always a great idea. For myself, I'd say I'm in between Low Active and Active. Maybe there needs to be a "Moderate Active". My solution will be to choose "Sedentary" and then add my daily activities separately. It may seem like more trouble, but it's likely to give more accurate calculations.
I may check in periodically over the weekend, and I'll be here Monday to check Forum questions. Everyone stay cool!
