I was talking to my ex-husband (age 52) who walks and does sit-ups and crunches to stay healthy. He just got diagnosed with diabetes and was devastated, because he felt he didn't eat that bad and took care of himself.
I was also watching 1000lb sisters where their brother Chris who had the weight loss surgery was told at his first weigh-in after he had to exercise 15 minutes a day for the rest of his life.
Randomly talking to my ex who said he went to the nutritionist who told him he needed to do exercises that got his heart rate up for 15 minutes a day for the rest of his life. He asked her, "So people don't need to exercise hours a day to get and stay healthy?" She told him in most cases no just 15 minutes a day with the right exercises will do the trick! He also told me eating within the food pyramid he lost 20lbs in the last month and a half!
This gives me encouragement because even though I was an athletic teen and my dad is a lifetime athlete I hated exercising. I get bored easily and do not like to sweat is one major issue so mine has to be an adventure. It is nice to know that if you can carve 15 minutes a day to get your heart rate up with the right exercises you can still lose weight and stay healthy!
They have also proven Yoga for weight loss also burns calories without intense exercise.
So just knowing this 15-minute rule gives me motivation to walk, dance, or hike even on the days I just don't feel like it or don't have time! Of course, I want to beat my 6 miles, but if I am having an off day or the weather is not permitting I can still get good results!
Always consult your doctor before starting or changing a diet and exercise program.
You can do this!
