Lost the Same 5 Pounds over and over Topic

I’m 41 and I know my hormones are changing. Never had a weight problem, but now I have about 15 pounds to lose. I’ve tried to watch what I eat, but 1 DQ blizzard and the scale shows 3 pounds over night. Is there no wiggle room at this stage of the game?

Hi Saphir. I would not be concerned about 3lbs overnight as you can lose that going to the toilet. I know some people say to weigh in everyday but that sets yourself up to possible disheartening emotions over little losses. I don’t know what your doing for your weight loss journey so I’m not going to guess at what the reason is.

From my own experience the scales can be misleading and should be taken as one piece of the puzzle. The tape measure is your friend. As I’ve in the gains 4 pounds but lost an inch around the waist.

Put the scales away and use once a week at the same time each week. Preferably after using the toilet. Losing every pound counts ;-). Get the tape measure out and compare.

Hope this helps and keep your chin up.

Water weight most likely

Hi there Saphir3-
Welcome to MyNetDiary! How is the tracking going?
How many weeks have you been working on changing your eating habits, exercising regularly, and tracking your progress? I agree with Mr.SimonC; eating an extra 900 calories (I am not sure the type of blizzard you ate) is not likely to result in weight gain overnight. However, I am not able to review your food log, so I am not sure about your energy balance the other days.

We suggest striving for a slow and steady weight loss of between 1/2-2# a week. This allows you to eat enough protein each day to stay satisfied and help preserve muscle mass and enough vitamins/minerals to meet your micronutrient needs. Hi Saphir.
It does get harder for us women as we get older that’s for sure!
When it comes to treating myself to things like DQ, I try to plan ahead as much as possible. If I can ahead of time I look online at the menu & choose the lowest cal option out of my favourite s. And I order the smallest size they have.
Denying yourself foods will never work.
And it is a marathon, not a sprint.
I agree with the comment on the scale. I actually only weigh myself once a month because otherwise the fluctuations are misleading.
You have to find what works best for you. Measurements, pictures & the way your clothes fit are all good indicators.
Good luck!

Totally agree about fluctuations. All water weight. I am trying to only weigh once a week. I understand wanting to weigh every day. You can do that if you are the type to not get discouraged.

Help I’m stuck. Staying at same weight for over a week
