CKD Diet; low protein; low phosphorous, low sodium, very low phosphorous. Topic

Any ideas what I can eat that doesn't contain phosphorous? Need substitute for milk. Thanks!

CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) - the idea is to lower intake of phosphorus not avoid it completely. I really like the NKDEP's handouts on the nutrients to watch (sodium, phosphorus, potassium, and protein). This link http://www.nkdep.nih.gov/living/diet-lifestyle-changes.shtml will take you to the webpage - scroll down and click the links for each nutrient. Very helpful handouts.

Also, if you have CKD, ask your doctor for a referral to a renal dietitian. It is typically covered by insurance/Medicaid/Medicare and they have lots of good tips/suggestions on how to limit the nutrients that can cause trouble with CKD (while still eating healthfully).

There is no substitute for milk! Even if it's your entire source of potassium it's not something you can readily just give up on!
