Thanks Kathy. Lot of good stuff there

Thanks, Mike! I sometimes forget to look at that chart myself. I'm trying to be more open minded about shellfish and bivalves but it is hard since I didn't grow up eating very much seafood. And I don't really feel confident buying it fresh or even knowing how to cook it. I have ventured into frozen shrimp and that is about as adventurous as it gets. Makes a great risotto though!

When I lived in Seattle, I learned to love fish - specifically, fresh fish prepared properly. Now I love salmon, halibut, and other types. Will order lots of different types in a seafood restaurant, but I still only buy and prepare salmon, trout, and tilapia in my home.

Muscle milk - the light version is very popular at Medical Weight Clinic! I prefer the regular version at 170 calories. I bought a 4-pack to try and I have to say that I really like it. It is also extremely effective at staving off hunger. The regular Vanilla Creme has 170 calories with 20 grams protein and only 7 grams carbs. That is my new fave "processed" snack food that helps me stay on track until I can eat a good balanced meal.

I don't like the light version of Muscle Milk. It seems too sweet. Good to know that the regular version is still pretty low carb. I am also looking to get more protein from non-meat sources.

I agree and the light muscle milk is also not as satisfying for me.

Hi Kathy. I'm still doing well on the program. Can you check my nutrition chart and give advice about my protein intake? I love my cereal for breakfast but I think I could use some help with some nutrients as certain ones are low when I checked my 30 days. Thanks.

Hi Misser55, do you need to take juice at breakfast for meds? If not, then perhaps skip the juice. Your breakfast looks good to me otherwise. If you wanted to add healthy fats w/ vit E, you could include some nuts in your cereal (or wheat Germ).

Which nutrients do you need help on? Remember that nutrients are not required on food labels, and therefore, might show a falsely low intake on your record (e.g. potassium, Vit K, E, most minerals, etc).

Best,
Kathy Isacks, MPS, RD, CDE

Thanks. Is my protein intake ok on the daily average? Any other suggestions? Yes, I take my vitamins in the morning and only drink a small glass of juice-4-5fl oz. I take 1,calcium-500 mg,1,vit d-400 UI,1, glucosamine chondroitin 500/400/400 mg, omega 369,1 daily vit for 50+, 1, vit c 1000mg time release and 1 allergy pill. Is this ok? I hardly take any tylenol anymore since my weight loss in the mornings for my arthritis but somedays it's difficult.

I take only 1 omega 369 daily. Total of 7 pills everyday in the morning.

At first blush, these vits/mins look fine but ask your pharmacist if you are concerned about what is okay to take with what (e.g. some vits/mins shouldn't be taken with certain types of meds).

Not sure what Omega 369 is - but many folks take omega-3 in the form of DHA+EPA.

Your protein intake avg looks fine to me!

Best,
Kathy
