I have a tape measure, but I'm afraid of more bad news. I don't see how you can gain muscle from just walking a lot. The last time I measured myself, I was an inch smaller around the waist than what I was when I was 40 pounds heavier. I don't think that's very good, although I'm two sizes smaller. I was very bad today. I ate 1900 calories, but I was only 29 calories over my goal due to walking a lot.

I'm no expert, but I'm assuming that if you walk an hour or more a day (or maybe less) that you build muscle, which has some weight. A trainer would be the best person to ask how much. I've always put on muscle quickly. I'm not sure how much muscle and how fast we do now that we're older, though. When I was weight lifting and walking I bulked up pretty fast. I sure wish I could afford a gym membership again.
5 years ago I was working out 1-1/2 hours a day, and walking 2 miles every evening. I weighed 165 but looked like I was much smaller. Then I listened to a trainer who said I needed to eat more carbs and gained the weight back. Sigh.

I haven't lifted weights since 2000. I walked and climbed stairs for an hour today. My hip is beginning to bother me. That's not good, because I have a volunteer job for which I have to walk for two hours. I am committed to do it for a year. I can never tell whether I'm in my calorie limit or not until I count them at the end of the day. Was good today.

Stairs are killers for me, too. I live on the second floor, with no elevator, so when I have to lug groceries up and down it kills me. I hope you did ok at work today. I'm trying to walk an hour a day too, 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour late afternoon.

My hip has repaired itself, but now I have a general tired feeling when I walk and when I get up in the morning. I looked at my stomach yesterday and it looked pretty good. I'm scared to get on the scale, though.

It's killing me to walk too. My hips feel real tight when I walk. But what can we do? We have to try. I wonder if an exercise bike would bother the back. Do you know? If I get a place on the first floor maybe I'll get one.

I don't buy gadgets. I use them for a few months, then I put them away. I don't know about exercise bikes. I have a friend who had one, but she's not as old as we are and, although she lost weight, there's no indication that the exercise bicycle helped.

I exercised 1075 calories and ate 1279 calories yesterday. My average for the week was about 1150. I lost no weight last week. I could scream! I must be all muscle by now.

I typed a whole paragraph then lost it, lol. Hang in there! Sooner or later we'll both lose weight. I was really bad yesterday. It was payday and I did all my shopping and was tired so ate. Think -- Nutella! I'm back on today, but I'm not weighing until tomorrow. Last week I gained 3 pounds, one pound a day for 3 days, then it stopped. I'm hoping it's on it's way back down again.

Forgot to eat one of my meals, but I made up for it in the others. I lost two tenths of a pound! Went way over my calorie limit today, but, with exercise, only burned over 200 calories. I can't believe that half cup of potatoes I ate was 769 calories!
