Low Impact Exercise Topic

I just found out that I shouldn't do high impact exercising due to my joints being looser than most people's joints. They aren't locked into place and move easily. What else could I do to loose weight and burn calories?

I have joint issues also (bad knees - herniated disk in my lower back). I use a stationary bike for my exercise. It's easy on the knees and I can get my heart rate up.

Thanks!!

I don't have the money for that right now.... Anything I could do until I do?

Walking is also an option.

Ok thanks! How fast do I need to walk to burn calories? Would a tread mill be low impact?

Walking is considered low impact so you could walk outdoors or on a treadmill. However, running would be high impact. Other cardio that is low impact: bicycling, stationery bicyling, swimming, walking in water (great workout!), elliptical machine (gyms have them), cross country skiing (and the machine), rowing (and the machine).

Can you ask your doctor for specific activities you are not allowed to do? For instance, a referral to a physical therapist?

Ok thanks for all the options.

My doctor said a pt wouldn't "stick". And I don't have the money for it anyways.

I'm not really sure what he said I had, but basically my joints are looser than most people's and doing high impact activities makes my bones grind together.

Okay, then be sure to include notes on how your body is feeling along with your food and exercise log. There is a Notes row in apps or in Details tab in web.

Oh, and about walking. Try to move continuously or walk "briskly." 3 MPH would do it (20 min to walk a mile) - and if you have long legs, you might even get up to 4 MPH (15 min to walk a mile).

I found out he said joint hyper mobility

What would logging how my body feels tell me?

Ok thanks!
