Hi Folks, I have a big sweet tooth too and many years ago I had to lose weight for my health. My struggles led to me to becoming a dietitian. At any rate, I have a few ideas if you are seriously craving sweets and are trying to minimize damage. I'm not advocating giving up healthy low-caloric density berries or similar fantastic choices for these sweets. It's just good to have sweet options that don't completely wreck the calories budget.

For store-bought sweet items, I love 15 grams of extra dark chocolate (e.g., Chocolove 77% cacao is my fave) for 80 calories. It has a rich chocolate taste without too much added sugar - it satisfies me. This is often my go-to sweet right after lunch.

Another treat I like, if you can tolerate aspartame, is Kroger's no sugar added/lactose free/reduced fat vanilla ice cream. I pair it with fresh berries and sprinkle it with ground cinnamon or nutmeg.

At night (after dinner), my most effective "stop signal" when I craving sugar is a small serving (about 15-20 grams) of honey peanuts. This is one of my favorite snacks since it gives me the satisfaction of sweetness, crunch, and satiety from the fat content.

If I am craving real cookies, I go for 20 g animal crackers (e.g. Cinnamon Teddy Grahams) paired with about 15 g dark chocolate chips (Ghirardelli 60% baking chips) and 1 cup skim milk. That pretty much nips a super sweet tooth attack in the bud.

With all sweets, of course, the idea is to indulge with portion size in mind. Some folks don't do well with any sweets at all, so respect that about yourself and find solutions that make sense for you. One person told me that he feels better if he simply avoids all sweet things and eats savory instead – that’s okay.

But it is nice to have sweet options if that is something you truly enjoy and can fit it into your eating plan and still meet your goals.

u buy sugar free sweetener like splenda or truvia and make sugar free sweets and enjoy ur sweet tooth with 0 added calories. mail me some sweets baby :)


I would say allow a treat every so often. Keep it small and work it into your caloric budget. Maybe once a week. This allows the craving to not overcome you. Plan it , make it something to look forward too.


I have type one diabetes and it is hard watching others eat things that I can’t……

Will have to look for that tea. In the winter, I really like Good Earth Sweet & Spicy flavored herbal tea for a little sweet hankering fix with zero calories. Brenda

Love pecan pie? Take take 2 medjoul dates and remove pits. Add a pecan 1/2 to each and microwave for a few seconds. Tastes like pecan pie.
