Hey all,

So I started writing this great intro message, contemplating what to say, etc, and when I hit post my login expired so it was lost. Now I don't have no time to re-do it, so here's the cliff's notes version... :-)

I'm 40, 4'11, and 141 lbs...being overweight sucks when you are any height, but especially when you are short. Time to change.

Hubby is 41, 5'11, 246, and disgusted as well. No more meat-n-potatoes comfort foods for us.

We got bikes - love'm - motivated to do more!

Got the app to track calories - great start!

Happily married 20 yrs, hope for at least 20 more, so we need to get in shape - for us, for our kids, and someday future grandkids!

Hope to meet others who are working through their own struggles as well.

God bless,

Stace

Hi Stace,
I'm new to this team too, but welcome! I'm down 35 pounds since March 9, 2011 and need to lose another 25 to be at my maximum recommended weight for my height. It's a long road, with speed bumps, but it is definitely achievable! Keep your chin up and I wish you the best!

Grats on your loss - that's fantastic! Did you start off with just diet only or a combo with exercise?

Since it was over 100deg out yesterday, I did some elliptical work indoors. I'm wondering if I should supplement with a different type - like pilates or some other low impact type since elliptical is similar to bike muscles (lunges do not agree with my knees whatsoever lol).

What have you found to be fun/effective?

Hi all :) I am just getting started here. I am planning to follow a 75/25 raw eating plan. 10 years ago, I lost 30 pounds (in 6 weeks) eating only fruits during the day, and then having lean protein and carb at night. Gained it all back and then some. I plan to do the same, but be a little smarter, with including healthy fats... sort of a modified Raw Foods Diet combined with Food Combining. It's worked for me before. Just have to make it a way of life.

Anyone else on a Raw Foods Protocol? :)

Thanks. I have followed a different sort of plan - my own LOL! I restrict my calories to 1400 or less a day. But I also try to keep my protein and my carb percentages about equal - in the low 40's every day. I'm not usually successful in that balance, but I try. I always have a protein shake for breakfast - I add frozen fruit so it's really a treat!

For exercise, I've tried killing myself with high-intensity before, and the weight loss didn't come quick. THIS TIME, I've found that if I get on the treadmill at least 5 days a week, and go at a good pace (walking), but I move the height up and down, and the pace changes too. I burn about 400 calories each time.

I did add some weight training a while back, but I have gotten out of that.

I've honestly found if I exercise comfortably - not that it's easy, b/c I'm sweating profusely! But I mean the intensity isn't too high so that I'm too sore, or too tired, or some other excuse comes too easy.

Don't know if it's good or not, but it seems to be working for me! And I can manage it and stay faithful to it.

Good luck!

Great input you two - thanks!

I've tried following specific diets and guidelines but it gets hard with a family of 5 - I've just made minor adjustments in the recipes to cut fats/cals (Love the Eat This Not That cookbooks!) and keep lots of fresh fruit/veggies on hand. Moderation for me will be key. When I tried to go raw foods completely, I felt alot of food kept spoiling. Just too much change at one time.

Totally agree on the exercise - I've purchased 60-day transformation programs and such but the workouts are so intense that I don't stick with them. We bought new recumbent bikes, which are a blast, so between that, elliptical work on bad weather days, and some walking dvd's, it's been enough for sweating but not hurting. Over time I'm guessing I'll be wanting to do more, but this is good for now.

I've also picked up a Zumba video game for fun - exercise dancing, like Jazzercise - highly recommend it!

I do a variety of exercises, but one I like in particular is for when I'm short on time. It's the 10 minute trainer by Tony Horton. One is 10 minutes of just abs, another for just lower body, etc.

It's not as intense as P90X - although I do sweat when I do them - but it's a great way to get at least "something" in every day, for those days when I either don't have 30-60 minutes, or am really sore, etc.

More than anything though, for me I've found having a variety is my biggest help of all.

Hey there:

I have been using MND for a month and find it fantastic. It's always been easy for me to lose weight on a diet, but hard to keep it off. I'm changing my focus completely now and not calling this a diet. This is just how I eat now (and will forever and ever amen). I watch the numbers and stay within the specified parameters. It's been working. In the first month I've lost 10 lbs. It is more than the 1lbs per week that I wanted, but I used to have no sense of moderation at all and was a snacker all the time. I know that my progress will slow considerably once my body gets used to it, but I have been circuit training to try and keep my metabolism higher, and yoga for general wellness.

I think the best part for me is that I don't deny myself what I want...so in that way, it's not like a diet.

Hello Everyone. I am looking to change my lifestyle as well. My Mom is currently in the hospital and has been for 3 weeks. She is in her 70's but a lot of her issues revolve around type 2 diabetes which I am also likely to get (I was gestational diabetic twice and currently borderline). I am under a lot of stress right now and was just put on steroids to correct a sciatica problem. With all that said, I KNOW I can do this. I am looking for buddies for mutual support. We can do this!

Hi everyone. I started my lifestyle change back in January of this year. So far I have went from a size 14 to a 4 in in 4 months and so far have been successful at keeping it off. I go to the gym on a regular basis anywhere 5 to 7 times a week mostly 7 but I don't beat myself up if I only go 5 times. I started my journey walking 2 miles a day and was always challenging myself to go a little farther. I got up to 8 miles a day and the pounds and inches were coming off. When this happen I found myself wanting to go farther and harder. I found that the only encouragement I needed was from myself I think if you depend on others you will be disappointed its not up to them or their obligation. Count on yourself only. It will be a ego boost to hear complements from others. I can faith in everyone who wants to lose weight. I truly believe you have to be mentally ready as well your mind is a powerful tool let it help you in your journey. Good Luck I am only a text away if you need to talk.
