After I had the heart attack I had to purchase a bp monitor. This Spring .unfortunately my BP was not good so my new PCP suggested a new cuff that he preferred and his patient had good results with. He was ver specific with the model etc . so i got it as we were adjusting and adding meds Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor I am satisfied with it . I don't really like to focus on that issue. That did clarify why Weight research say health reasons as the primary reason for weight loss are not durable. I had difficulty understanding and accepting that until I ended up back on two more BP med. Good thing the 140 pounds did not come off for that reason or i would have said forget it and regained.

Hi Fran - that is interesting and I haven't yet heard that from my weight-med docs. I will ask them about that.
I know my Dad lost a fair amount of weight AND retired and his BP dropped a lot and never went back up. He is nearly off BP meds (very low dose of only 1 med) at 76 yo. But he admits that retiring did more for his BP than almost anything else.
Thanks for the info!

All chronic diseases benefit from weight loss but that cannot always be translated into no medication. I have coronary artery disease. That is there. Weight loss changed the chaise but the engine stayed the same. Same with diabetes in some cases. If the pancreas stops producing insulin you will need insulin even with weight loss. You are slowing the progression but in some cases medication is still no option. That is why you need other reasons in addition to health. Quality of life etc.

Ragweed is pretty wicked this year. Did you all know that a cross-reaction for those of us who suffer from ragweed seasonal allergies is melon and bananas? Apparently, National Jewish Hospital (ranked #1 in respiratory care) says that cross-reactions are higher during allergy season. I did not know that!
Welcome to the fall season!
Best,
Kathy

wait a minute, are you serious?!?! if I'm allergic to ragweed, melons and bananas make it worse?!??! If that's the case, you have no idea how important that info is to me right now! I am on tons of allergy meds for terrible hives. It's so bad that I can't wear deodorant!! Last week I was covered so badly that I had to rotate ice packs on my body for relief. I eat bananas everyday. often after exercise, and I have exercise enduced uticaria. THANK YOU!!!!!

OK, summer is at an end and I really have to get back to my good habits of tracking diligently and cutting down on some of my summer indulgences--my favorite is a lovely glass of rose. I just won't have it as often. August was tough with a camping vacation, a birthday and lots of grilling out parties. Now back to what I know works. So glad this and all of you are still here.

I find that vacations can be hard on calories intake - just the daily alcoholic drink can push me into a calories surplus with a small weight gain by the end of vacation.
I will miss the wonderful and affordable veggies and fruit of summer. Here in CO, it is slim pickings by fall. Sigh.
But it is still in the high 80s/low 90s by midday here.

Yep, my vacation in August and all of the parties around my birthday and Labor Day added 3 lbs (!) Working hard now to undo that month of indulgence. Tracking and regular weigh-ins are the key.
