Hi everyone! New here, not quite 50 yet, just another couple of months, but I feel way older than that! I'm excited to come across this website! I've been carrying 115 extra pounds (give or take) for 15 years now. I go through periods where I try to lose it, get frustrated because I hit that plateau and completely stop losing weight, get depressed and give up. I do have some medical issues that make it difficult for me to lose weight and I haven't had a proper physical in a couple of years, so that is definitely on my to-do list. Have any of you tried Noom? I've read a lot of really good reviews about it and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it. It's supposed to be geared towards the lifestyle change that is required to lose weight and keep it off.
So what is my motivating factor for all of a sudden wanting to make the gigantic leap to lose 115 pounds and get healthy? Obesity runs in my family and women in my family historically have very short lives. I have a wonderful husband of 23 years and 2 of the most amazing kids in the world. I'm just not anywhere near ready to leave them. As I approach the big 50, I'm feeling my mortality (and I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore). I need to get healthy and turn back the clock as much as I can.
I'm happy to be here and can't wait to chat with you all!

Hi,
I'm new to the group. I'm not terribly motivated to do much of anything when it comes to exercise, but I hit the 217 mark and decided it was time to take action at age 58! I invested in this app, which I have to say, I love it so far. I've only used it a few weeks, but it helped me bring back into line portion control, and also makes me really aware of what time of day i eat. I tend to be a grazer late in the evenings.
I also invested in a basic fitbit to track my walking, I'm embarrassed to say I rarely make 5,000 steps. So right now my goal is to consistently do 5,000 and then I'll start adding on.
I also have hypothyroidism, but Levothyroxin creates massive problems for me, so I don't take it. (yes, yes, I've had this discussion with my doctor, but when I'm on it consistently I feel like I ache and am swollen everywhere, tired, etc...) When I don't take it, I sleep well every night, have a lot of energy that lasts all day. I'm hoping that losing weight will improve my thyroid numbers as well.
As for family, 3 of my children have moved into their own homes, so I only have 1 left at home, cooking for my hubby, daughter and myself is pretty easy. She's all of 98 lbs soaking wet in a parka! So I'm focusing on making them something, and then making myself something slightly different to fit into my parameters. I can't really pick which diet plan to use, so I'm just focusing on reducing my carbs a bit, increasing my protein a bit and avoiding sweets.
I also dislike to walk in my neighborhood, but do occasionally, so I have several exercise options in my house, total gym (pretty much unused at this point), recumbent bike, which I used to like a lot, but I took a fall a year ago and it bothers my knee. I also have an elliptical and my kids got me a rowing machine for Christmas. I have to say the elliptical I really like, easy to use, inexpensive and relaxing. The rowing machine surprised me by being very quiet and relaxing. I actually look forward to doing that one. Both the elliptical and rowing machine register as steps for the fitbit which is a plus.
My biggest problem is being consistent with exercise. I do well for a day or two, then get side tracked and find myself working for hours on the computer. I'm hoping this group does some simple challenges to help each other stay on track.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions! Best of luck in your journey as well.

Hi, welcome. I have been here since the end of the summer. I use it mainly for the nutrition tracker, but I also track my exercise. I have my fitbit synced so I am careful to only enter in the items that do not show up as steps (strength training, etc).
I have a lot of weight to lose and am not even halfway to my goal. I have found that being consistent with strength training has been more beneficial than cardio (I do both). I have been able to lose over 50 pounds. I injured (fractured) my kneecap the end of September and that made exercise difficult but I have worked with my doctor to figure out what I could still do safely.
I hit my first real platuea the middle of December and am still stuck but working through it with consistency. I know I will be able to break through at some point. There are so may more benefits to exercise and healtful eating besides weight loss. For me, that is a big help in staying consistent.

Hey, Y'all. I joined (and committed to a paid year) two weeks ago. Today was my second weigh-in and I'm down 2 lbs in two weeks. I'm about to turn 58 and had a one-and-only pregnancy and baby at 48. She's 9 now! I used MyNetDiary during my pregnancy because I had gestational diabetes and controlled it entirely through diet.
Since menopause 3 years ago, I have packed on the pounds. I've never been thin, but I've always been able to eat like a horse without gaining much weight. Now I get fat on air, it seems like. Actually, that's not true. The tracker is helping me see exactly how I got here.
Anyway, cheers and I hope we can share the journey and offer each other support and hilarity. I'm trying to lose 34 lbs.
